Suki App Studio

Privacy Policy

Effective date: 2026-10-18

Suki App Studio ("we", "us") is the controller of personal information processed through the Tide & Bite mobile application (the "App"). This policy explains what is processed, by whom and why, and what choices you have.

1. Summary

The App has no user accounts and we do not operate any server for it. Your saved places, catch log, photos, checklist, settings and your phone's last position are stored only on your device and are never sent to us. To show forecasts and the map, the App sends the coordinates of the spot you are viewing, rounded as described in section 2, directly from your device to the public weather, ocean and map services named below; place search uses your phone's own geocoding service. Advertising is provided by Google AdMob, which collects the data described in section 2. We receive nothing from the App itself, only what you send us by e-mail.

2. Information processed

Location. With your permission (precise or approximate, as you choose), the App takes a single position fix from your phone's location services when you choose to use your current location, and only while the App is open. It does not track your movements and never reads your location in the background. The position is used to choose the nearest tide station, to calculate sun and moon times and to request forecasts for that spot. The last position, the time it was taken and its place name are kept on your device so that the App can show your spot before the next fix. You can also use the App without location permission by picking spots on the map or by search.

Forecasts. While the App is on screen, it requests forecasts for the spot you are viewing (your current position, a saved place or a point you picked) directly from: MET Norway (api.met.no) for weather; PacIOOS at the University of Hawaiʻi for NOAA WAVEWATCH III wave forecasts; and NOAA CoastWatch for NASA JPL MUR and NOAA blended satellite sea temperature. MET Norway receives the spot's coordinates rounded to two decimal places (about 1 km). The wave and sea-temperature services receive a small area around the spot, centred on its rounded coordinates, and the model grid point nearest to it. Like any web server, these services also see your device's IP address and the App's name and version (its User-Agent); they receive no identifier of you or your device. The responses are kept in the App's cache on your device, which is excluded from backups. The App never fetches forecasts in the background: the widget, the reminders and the conditions recorded with a catch use only the tide tables and what is already cached.

Place search and place names. When you search for a place, or when the App names your position or a point you picked on the map, the search text or the coordinates are sent to your phone's built-in geocoding service (Android's Geocoder, provided by Google on most devices). That service is part of your phone, not of the App, and handles the request under its provider's privacy policy. If your phone has no geocoding service, search is not available.

Map. Map data is loaded from OpenFreeMap (tiles.openfreemap.org). To deliver it, OpenFreeMap's servers receive the area of the map you are viewing and your IP address. The map library keeps a cache of the map tiles you have viewed in the App's private storage on your device so that they load faster; this cache is excluded from backups.

Your fishing data (on your device only). The App keeps in its private storage on your device: the places you save (name, coordinates, water type and chosen tide station); your settings (such as units, language, theme, fishing style and reminders); your trip checklist; and your catch log. A catch entry contains what you enter (species, count, length, weight, bait, method, notes, whether the fish was released, time, place name and coordinates) and the conditions the App fills in automatically for that time and place (tide, moon, weather and sea). None of this is sent to us.

Catch photos (on your device only). You can add a photo by choosing it with the Android photo picker or by taking it with your phone's camera app. The App holds no camera or storage permission and sees only the photo you choose or take. It stores a reduced copy, re-encoded as a new image, which removes the original's metadata (EXIF), including any GPS location.

Export and sharing. Only when you tap it, the App passes a CSV file of your catch log, or a catch summary with or without its photo, to the Android share sheet, and you choose the app or person that receives it. The CSV file includes the coordinates of your catches. Once shared, the content is handled by the app you chose, not by us.

Notifications and widget. The reminders you switch on, for high and low tide and an optional daily reminder before the day's best fishing time, are calculated and scheduled on your device. The best-time reminder is worked out from the tide tables, sun and moon and any forecast already cached; nothing is fetched for it. The notification permission is requested only when you turn a reminder on. The home-screen widget is also calculated on your device. Neither the reminders nor the widget uses the network.

Calculations on the device. Tide predictions, sun and moon times, the fishing index, the go / no-go safety check and the species and season guide are calculated on your device from data bundled with the App and from the forecasts described above. Their results are not sent anywhere.

Links. Links to official fishing-regulation pages open in your browser. Those websites have their own privacy policies.

Advertising data (collected by Google). The Google Mobile Ads SDK shows one banner and collects, for advertising, measurement, analytics and fraud prevention: the advertising ID and other device identifiers, the IP address (from which an approximate location is derived), device and app information, diagnostic information, and how you interact with advertisements. Where the law requires it, Google's consent message asks for your choice before any ad is requested. Google LLC and its partners process this data as described at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites and https://policies.google.com/privacy. The App does not pass your GPS position, your places or your catch log to the advertising SDK. The App has no in-app purchases and no analytics SDK.

E-mail. If you write to us, we receive your e-mail address and the content of your message and use them only to answer you.

3. Purposes and legal bases

Showing tides, forecasts, the map and place names, keeping your places, catch log, photos, checklist and settings, and sending the reminders and shares you ask for: providing the functions you request, and our legitimate interest in offering a working fishing app. Location and notifications are used only after you grant the permission.

Advertising: your consent where the law requires it (for example in the EEA, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, collected through Google's consent message), otherwise our legitimate interest in keeping the App free.

Answering your e-mail: our legitimate interest in responding to you and dealing with your request.

4. Recipients and international transfers

We do not sell personal information. We receive none of the data described in section 2 except what you send us by e-mail. Google Play also gives us aggregated statistics and crash reports that do not identify you.

The App sends data directly from your device to the following independent providers, each of which handles it under its own terms and privacy policy. They receive it over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) each time you use the function concerned:

MET Norway (Norwegian Meteorological Institute), Norway: rounded coordinates of the spot, IP address and User-Agent, to provide weather forecasts.

PacIOOS, University of Hawaiʻi, United States: an area around the spot and the nearest grid point, IP address and User-Agent, to provide wave forecasts.

NOAA CoastWatch, United States: an area around the spot and the nearest grid point, IP address and User-Agent, to provide sea temperature.

OpenFreeMap, in the countries where its servers are located: the map area you view and IP address, to provide map data.

Your phone's geocoding service (Google LLC on most devices), United States and other countries where it operates: search text or coordinates, to find and name places.

Google LLC, United States and other countries where Google and its advertising partners operate: the advertising data described in section 2, to show and measure advertising.

Google processes advertising data under the safeguards it describes in its policies, including standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The forecast and map services receive only what is needed to answer each request. Our e-mail is hosted by Google (Gmail). Under some laws, showing personalised advertising is treated as "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising; you can opt out as described in section 6.

5. Retention

Saved places, the catch log and its photos, the checklist, settings and the last position stay on your device until you delete them in the App, clear the App's data or uninstall the App. A catch's photo is deleted with the catch, and photos chosen for a catch that is never saved are deleted automatically. Forecast responses and exported files are kept in the App's cache, are replaced as they expire and may be cleared by Android at any time. The map library limits the size of the map tile cache and replaces older tiles automatically; the cache is deleted when you clear the App's data or uninstall the App. The App uses Android Auto Backup: if backup is turned on on your device, your saved places, catch log, checklist, settings and last position may be included in the backup in your own Google account until that backup is deleted. Catch photos, the cache and the map tile cache are left out of this cloud backup so that it stays within its size limit; on Android 12 and later, a direct transfer from one phone to another also includes catch photos. We keep e-mail only as long as needed to deal with your message, unless the law requires longer. The providers in section 4 retain data according to their own policies.

6. Your choices and rights

Your data on the device: edit or delete saved places and catches (with their photos) in the App, or delete everything by clearing the App's data or uninstalling it. You can revoke the location or notification permission at any time in Android Settings; you can then still pick spots on the map or by search, but reminders will not be shown. Tides, sun and moon work without a network connection; forecasts and the map need the requests described in section 2.

Advertising choices: open "Ad privacy choices" in the App's settings (shown where the law requires it) to change or withdraw your consent; reset or delete your advertising ID, or turn off ad personalisation, in Android Settings (Google > Ads, or Privacy > Ads, depending on the device).

Depending on where you live, you have the right to access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to restrict or object to processing, to withdraw consent at any time, and to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority. Because we hold no personal information about you on any server, most requests are fulfilled on your own device; for data held by Google or the other providers in section 4, use their tools. You can always contact us at the address below and we will answer within the period required by law.

7. Regional information

European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland: the GDPR / UK GDPR rights in section 6 apply; you may complain to your local supervisory authority. Data sent to providers in the United States is described in section 4.

Republic of Korea: items processed, purposes and retention periods are those in sections 2, 3 and 5. We do not collect or store location information; the App uses your phone's position on your device and sends only the rounded coordinates described in section 2 to the forecast services. Personal information is provided or transferred overseas only to the recipients in section 4, with the countries, items and purposes stated there; time and method: transmitted over the network when you use the function concerned; retention: according to each recipient's policy. You may refuse these transfers by not using the function concerned, by declining ad consent or by turning off ad personalisation; forecasts, the map, place search or personalised advertising will then not be available. Our e-mail service (Gmail) is entrusted to Google LLC. Automatically collected information: the App uses no cookies; the advertising SDK uses the advertising ID, which you can reset or delete as described in section 6. Personal information is destroyed by deleting it in the App or deleting the App's data, and e-mails by deleting them from our mailbox. Person responsible for personal information protection: the representative of Suki App Studio, sukiappstudio@gmail.com. You may also seek help from the Personal Information Infringement Report Center (https://privacy.kisa.or.kr, 118) or the Personal Information Dispute Mediation Committee (https://www.kopico.go.kr, 1833-6972). Children under 14 may not use the App without the consent of their legal guardian.

United States (including California): we do not sell personal information for money. You may opt out of "sharing" for cross-context behavioural advertising through the choices in section 6. We do not use sensitive personal information to infer characteristics about you, and we do not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Brazil: you have the rights listed in Article 18 of the LGPD and may contact the ANPD. International transfers take place as described in section 4.

Japan: we handle personal information in accordance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information; information sent to the providers in section 4 may be processed in the United States, Norway and other countries, as described there.

India: you have the rights provided by the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, including the right to nominate and the right to grievance redressal through the contact below.

Russia, Vietnam: you have the rights provided by your national personal data law, including to withdraw consent and to request deletion.

8. Children

The App is not directed to children under 13. Anyone below the age at which they can consent to the processing of their personal data where they live (for example 14 in the Republic of Korea or up to 16 in some European countries) may use the App only with the consent of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly process children's personal information. If you believe a child has used the App without such consent, contact us.

9. Security

The App stores its data in the private storage that Android protects from other apps, and all its network requests use encrypted connections. Anyone who can unlock your phone can open the App and see your places and catch log. Reminders and the widget may show a place name, tide times or the best fishing time on your lock screen or home screen. Files and summaries you export or share leave the App's protection.

10. Changes

We will post any update to this policy in the App and on its store page, with a new effective date, before the change takes effect.
